Tektites are a form of fused glass that formed during an impact of a meteor with layers of rock on the Earth's surface. Indochinites are tektites found in limited supply throughout South East Asia. Prof. A. Lacroix of France formally named them “Indo-Chinites” in the 1930s but they were known long before that by the Chinese who described them in literature in 900 AD as Lei-gong-mo meaning “Thunder God Ink-black Stone”. Some tektites, called moldavites, are particularly coveted for their clarity and unique green color. Moldavites are found in a "splash field" centered around Moldavia in former Czechoslovakia and are believed to have come from a meteorite crater in Germany. The present lot includes a bracelet formed of five sections of rich bottle green moldavite which are bezel-set in silver bracelet, completed by a toggle clasp, length 7in, adjustable; together with an Indochinite, peridot and silver necklace designed as a continuous strand, length 34 in.
