Flora and fauna have figured prominently in jewelry design throughout the centuries. No less popular have been brooches in the form of such revered insects as butterflies. An homage to Lepidoptera is this unique butterfly brooch set with approximately 49.3 carats of gem-quality spinels. Expertly crafted of 18K yellow gold, with a rich beaded decoration, the wings of the insect are set with oval, round, cushion and pear-shaped spinels, all possessing excellent luster and high clarity in rare hues of fuschia, rose, lavender, purple, red, bright pink and deep orange. The wings are accented with approximately 1.50 carats of brilliant-cut white diamonds and four brilliant-cut natural color yellow diamonds which form the eyes and ends of the antennae. Such an exquisite brooch is sure to make a statement when worn on the lapel or shoulder. Width 3in
