South Africa
This rare form of garnet is often confused with jade when seen only in its green form—hence it has been frequently called “Transvaal jade”, due to its origin in South Africa. Very rarely does one see the red variety of this mineral, much less the two colors juxtaposed. This pair of pear-shaped cabochons is perfectly matched. They graduate from strawberry red at the top to rich grass green at the base and would be suitable for mounting as earrings. Weighing approximately 21.65 carats and measuring 26.5 x 10.0 x 5.0mm each.
