Morganite and Green Beryl Carving of a Toad

One of the many things at which Dreher excels is the use of banded or color zoned gem material to depict his subject. In the case of this virtuoso sculpture—a frog perched on a rocky outcrop—the creature in his habitat is rendered from a single piece of rough using the natural juxtaposition of two varieties of beryl—pink (morganite) and green. The body of the frog is expertly carved of very translucent, rich pink morganite and textured with a frosted finish. The inset eyes formed of natural banded agate. The rocks on which he rests are rendered through the use of highly transparent green beryl. with monogram signature GD for Gerd Dreher. Measuring 3 x 3 x 2 ½in
