Pair of Mounted Raptor Eggs
Elongatoolithus sp., Oviraptorid
Late Cretaceous
China
An excellent pair of oviraptorid eggs illustrates the paired manner in which Oviraptors laid eggs. In order to keep watch over their eggs, Oviraptors probably nested on an open plain, much like today’s ostrich. Interestingly, a recently found nest has skull elements of an embryo Troodontid, suggesting that Oviraptor may have stolen eggs from other theropod nests. Eggs show some compression. Measures 8 x 7 x 1 ½in
