Sawfish

Libanopritis hiram
Cenomanian, Middle Cretaceous
Hakel, Lebanon

An excellent specimen, the rostrum is preserved as a stain and the small teeth can be seen along its side. The gill slits and mouth can be seen; the whip-like tip of the tail is preserved. The specimen fluoresces well under blacklight. Libanopritis hiram swam slowly along the ocean bottom looking for prey, its head bobbing left and right. When resting it probably covered itself with the sand of the ocean floor like modern rays. Measures 23 x 8 1/8 x 1 ¼in
