Large Horseshoe Crab with Trackway

Mesolimulus walchi
Jurassic
Solnhofen, Germany

From the famous lithographic limestone of Solnhofen, Germany, a well preserved horseshoe crab is displayed with its original trackway, the creature’s pathway to its final resting place. Exhibiting a straight trackway leading to a curved area that gives the impression of the crab’s final struggle against death, the impressively large piece is an exceptional portrait of life in the Jurassic Period. Relatives of the present day sword-tail or horseshoe crab, these animals have survived virtually unchanged for the past 150 million years. Measures 49 1/2 x 26in Horseshoe crab measure 7 x 3 3/4in
