Trilobites were one of the most successful, and varied, invertebrates to appear on earth. Once established, they flourished, filling the almost every niche in the ocean. Some swam, but most crawled on the ocean floor. They were mainly scavengers, with a few exceptions being active hunters. Their sizes varied from less than ½ inch to over 2 feet. Some had a smooth carapace, while others exhibited numerous horns and spikes. Some lacked eyes, and others possessed compound eyes. Largest measures 7in
