Large Chiapan Amber Specimen

Oligocene – Miocene
Chiapas, Mexico

An extremely large and rare specimen of rough Chiapan amber with very few, if any, internal fractures. Specimens of this size and quality are rarely seen on the market. Warm base colors reveal blue-green flashes with an occasional violet sheen; highly fluorescent under blacklight. The specimen also displays a portion of a fossilized shell, an interesting phenomenon unique to some specimens of Mexican amber. Slight chipping occurred during mining. Some surface cracks, which do not penetrate into the piece, are present. Weighs 1,200 grams (1.2 kilograms). Measures 8 x 5 ½ x 3 3/4i
