Rhodonite Rough and Cut

Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais, Brazil
A mineral typically seen in aggregate form, it is rarely ever seen in transparent crystals. Specimens of rhodonite are typically pink and opaque, with heavy black veining. In the lapidary arts, the stone is typically used for ornamental purposes and carving of sculptures. The present lot features an exceptional piece of rhodonite rough exhibiting natural boulder edges to at least two sides and an exceptional transparency for the species weighing approximately 394 grams and measuring 3 x 3 x 1 inches; together with an oval cabochon rhodonite, highly transparent with a rich, cherry red color, with very good clarity, weighing approximately 3.60 carats and measuring 11.5 x 8.0 x 3.5mm.
