Momin Akhada
Rahuri, Maharashtra, India
Originating from the Deccan Plateau, namely the south Indian tableland, this museum-quality specimen is notable for its very large size and large number of apophyllite clusters. Only one pocket of apophyllites of this style—with specimens having a ball form rather than merely single crystals—was discovered. Found in 2001, this is probably one of the more impressive display specimens retrieved from that particular pocket. Vanadium is what colors the normally clear crystals aqua green in apophyllite. In the present specimen, 7 apophyllite ball-like clusters with colorless, highly transparent terminations rest on a glistening bed of cream-colored stilbite crystals—their deep green seems to glow from within. A very large and three-dimensional display specimen. Measuring 6 ½ x 8 x 5in
