A Ronald Colman overcoat from "A Tale of Two Cities"

MGM, 1935. A gray wool overcoat with an elaborate collar and lapel and tan-colored buttons (likely made of bakelite) worn by the actor as he portrayed Sydney Carton in the film based on the classic novel by Charles Dickens; a Western Costume Company label with a handwritten notation reading "Ronald Colman" and "40 1/2 -- 3484" is sewn on inside collar. Originally purchased at the now famous 1970 MGM auction, a photocopied letter of provenance from the original buyer is included as is Ronald Colman's signed contract for the film and two black and white stills showing him wearing the overcoat. Accompanying Colman's piece is an identical overcoat worn by Donald Woods, the actor who portrayed Charles Darnay, also with a Western Costume Company label with a handwritten notation reading "Donald Woods" and "38 -- 3644."
