Enormous two-headed Steiff llama from "Doctor Dolittle"

20th Century Fox, 1967. This giant 'stuffed animal' llama was specially made by the renowned German Steiff Company for 20th Century Fox to use during their promotional tours for the Academy AwardR-winning film "Doctor Dolittle" in 1967-1968. Created to look like the two-headed llama in the film named 'Push Me Pull You' (which was actually a costume worn by two men), this unique piece was displayed in various movie theatre lobbies around the U.S. and Europe when the film was being premiered. The 'Push Me Pull You' llama plays a pivotal role in the beginning part of the film as Rex Harrison uses him (or them) as the star attraction of a circus, thus enabling him to make money to fund his search for the Great Pink Sea Snail. This llama is still in good condition with only slight wear due to age; the two heads are removeable; the Steiff silver button and yellow ribbon reading "Steiff / Made in Germany" is in the right ear of one head; Steiff button is in other head as well, but only remnants of that yellow ribbon remain. Included is a black and white still showing Rex Harrison feeding 'Push Me Pull You' from the film and a letter of provenance from the vendor.

Provenance:
The current vendor obtained this peice when he was an intern at 20th Century Fox in Sweden in the late 1960s. The last premiere for "Doctor Dolittle" was at a movie theatre in Stockholm where this llama was on display and after the function, it was decided that the stuffed animal was too big to return to the U.S. so our vendor was able to keep it. He has had it for the past 38 years and has decided to offer it here at B&B for the first time.
Approximately 65 x 75 x 40in
