Footnotes

The current view relates to the set of four similar sized works on brass currently hanging in the Peabody Museum, Salem, these depict Whampoa, Jamestown, Capetown and Canton and are attributed to a follower of Spoilum known as the 'Master of the Fire of 1822'.

The work can be dated to approximately 1815 and Fort Cornwallis can be clearly seen on the right of the composition.
