PROVENANCE:
The collection of Arnold Blome, Bremen.
Guanajuato is located in the very centre of Mexico about three and half-hours from Mexico City and is noted for its colonial architecture. The word Guanajuato means "hill of frogs" in the indigenous language, because the local Tarascan Indians believed that the frog represented the god of wisdom.
The current work was lithographed by Emile Lassalle, with figures added by Lehnert and then published in K. Nebel,'Voyage Pittoresque et Archeologique dans le Mexique', Lemercier & Miahle, Paris, 1836.
