Attributed to Noah Seaman (British, fl.1724-1741)

A Gentleman, called James Seton Stewart (or Stuart), Lord High Steward of Scotland, wearing blue coat with gold buttons and gold embroidered button holes, matching waistcoat, tied cravat and long, curled wig.
Enamel, turned wood frame, the reverse with sitter's details on two old collection labels.
Oval, 35mm (1 3/8in) high

Footnotes

Although it has not been possible to identify the sitter with any certainty, he could be James Seton, 3rd Viscount Seton, born before 1699. He married Anne Lindsay, daughter of Colin Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Balcarres and Jean Carnegie, on 16 April 1714. James Seton, also gained the title of 3rd Viscount Kingston.
