English school (18th Century)

A Soldier, wearing buff-coloured jacket under silver armour breastplate trimmed with red, his large lawn collar with tassels.
Enamel, Rectangular papier-mâché frame.
Oval, 56mm. (2 3/16ins.) high

Footnotes

The loose palette and white highlights of this enamel suggest a British artist of the 18th century. The costume of the sitter is indicative of circa 1640-50 and may be after an artist such as Alexander Cooper (c.1605-1660).
