A Naval Sub-Lieutenant, said to be of the artist's family, three-quarter length, wearing blue uniform with gold trimmed white collar and gold epaulettes, the medal of the 1st China War at his chest, he stands on the deck of a ship, sword in hand, leaning against a draped Union Jack (artist's joins).
Signed on reverse and dated Painted by Mrs Dalton/ London 1844, Chinese 'Chippendale' frame.
