Footnotes

The present lot is an interesting example of an Indian artist copying the style of the European miniaturists who were based in India in the late 18th and 19th Century. Sadly neither the artist nor sitter are recorded but from the inscription it is known that the portrait was taken at Delhi. It is also interesting to note that despite the inscription being in Persian, the date has been expressed in a Western format.
