A Field Rank officer, probably a Major, of the 78th Highland Regiment of Foot (or Ross-shire Buffs), wearing scarlet coat with yellow collar, gold epaulettes, white shoulder belt with gold belt plate bearing crown and motto, Cuidich'n Rhi, crimson sash and black stock.
Gold frame, the reverse glazed to reveal plaited hair.
