Footnotes
This interesting miniature may have been one of the last portraits painted by Engleheart. After 1813 he had virtually retired from painting and had moved to his country house. By 1818, he was living in Blackheath, looked after by his son Nathaniel. Although fully inscribed by Engleheart on the reverse, the costume suggests a slightly later date for the miniature. It may have been completed by his nephew and pupil, John Cox Dillman Engleheart.
The portrait possibly portrays Lydia Arnold (d.1862), who married Richard Lambart, 7th Earl of Cavan, in 1814.
