Footnotes
The post-1801 Union flags on both Royal Navy vessels in this work indicate that it is not one of those many compositions Buttersworth executed during his own naval service on this coast in the mid-1790's, and which normally depict either the blockading fleet or the fleet's activities before or after the battle of Cape St. Vincent in 1797.
