With turn-off cannon barrel with pronounced muzzle-ring, turned girdle and engraved faceted breech behind a raised octagonal band, engraved tang secured by a screw and extending over the breech, border engraved action (mechanism, cock, steel and steel-spring replaced) signed beneath the steel-spring, moulded finely figured rootwood globose butt with raised 'side-plate' and apron around the barrel tang, and engraved trigger-guard with trefoil-shaped finials (some wear and rust patination overall), indistinct London proof marks and maker's mark

Thomas 1 Hawley was elected Master of the Gunmakers' Company in 1701. He was Gunmaker to Ordnance between 1682 and the year of his death in 1707
