A Fine Cased 32-Bore Percussion Sporting Rifle
By David Gass, 42 & 43 Oxford St., London, No. 147, Circa 1830

With browned twist octagonal sighted barrel rifled with ten grooves and signed in full at the breech along the top flat, blued folding-leaf back-sight, foliate engraved case-hardened breech with platinum lines and pierced platinum plug, long case-hardened tang engraved with foliage and a scallop shell, signed case-hardened back-action lock engraved with foliage, engraved safety-catch, figured half-stock with chequered grip, foliated engraved blued steel mounts comprising butt-plate with a stag in a landscape on the heel, trigger-guard with a recumbent stag in a landscape on the bow, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, silver fore-end cap, blued sling loops, original horn-tipped ramrod, and most of its original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including Sykes flask with planished body and nipple box labelled 'Pegs', the interior of the lid with maker's trade label, the exterior (some bruising) with brass plate with flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks
