A 50-Bore Flintlock Box-Lock Pocket Pistol
By P. Gandon, London, Circa 1750

With turn-off cannon barrel numbered '1' at the breech, border engraved action (top of cock replaced) signed on a rocaille on one side and 'London' on a foliated banner on the other, sliding trigger-guard safety-catch engraved with a flowerhead on the bow, and figured flat-sided butt inlaid with silver wire scrollwork (minor losses), London proof marks and maker's mark

Footnotes

Peter 2 Gandon was apprenticed to his father in 1728. His mark was registered in 1742 and he was declared bankrupt in 1754. In 1757 his contract with the Ordnance was cancelled due to 'his want of Expedition and the indifference of his Workmanship'
