An Unusual 25-Bore Flintlock Travelling Or Overcoat Pistol With Left-Hand Lock

With heavy rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrel signed in elaborate script along the top at the breech (signature refreshed), recessed patent breech with rectangular platinum-lined maker's stamp between platinum lines, platinum-lined touch-hole, foliate engraved tang incorporating a back-sight, signed border engraved flat lock (cock missing, steel replaced) decorated with a starburst and foliage, and with safety-catch, rainproof pan and ramped steel-spring, figured three-quarter-stock with chequered rounded butt, foliate engraved steel mounts comprising butt-cap and D-shaped trigger-guard (tang repaired), trigger-plate with pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheon, and later ramrod (lock and mounts pitted), London proof marks

Alexander Wilson worked for both John and Joseph Manton. He set-up business at 14 Tichborne Street in 1805 and in June 1810 Joseph Manton brought an action against him for making double barrelled guns with elevated ribs which were protected by Manton's Patent No. 2966 of 1806.
