Converted from flintlock, with octagonal sighted barrels each signed on the top flat, foliate engraved breeches and tangs, the former each with dummy plug (one bolster missing), the latter each incorporating a back-sight, signed border engraved detented locks (hammer noses chipped), figured half-stocks (one repaired beneath the lock) each with chequered rounded butt, engraved steel mounts comprising butt-caps and spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, set triggers, vacant silver escutcheons, horn fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods (one repaired and incomplete, some wear and rust patination overall): in lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories including brass-mounted powder-flask retaining much of its original lacquered finish, and mainspring-clamp, the interior of the lid with illustrated trade label of E. & W. Bond for circa 1840 (some staining and minor damage), the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle engraved with owner's name 'James H. Mc.Dowell' and circular brass escutcheon
