The First Signed Thompson, The Second By Styan, Manchester, Both Mid-19th Century

The first with rebrowned octagonal sighted barrel rifled with eight grooves, engraved breech with white-metal line, foliate engraved tang and back-action lock (action defective, hammer spur replaced), figured full stock (fore-end with minor damage) with chequered rounded butt, white-metal mounts including spur trigger-guard, vacant white-metal escutcheon, set trigger, horn fore-end cap, and stirrup ramrod, Birmingham proof marks; the second with turn-off barrel engraved with foliage around the muzzle, brass action (safety-catch missing) signed within an oval on a trophy of arms on each side, cap-retainer, folding trigger, figured flat-sided butt chequered along the back, and vacant diamond-shaped silver escutcheon (some wear overall), Birmingham proof marks (2)
