A 16-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun, Another Of 20-Bore, And Another
The First By Joyner Of London, Circa 1765, the Second By Lowe, Circa 1760, And The Last By Thwaits, Bath, Circa 1760-62

The first with shortened barrel, grooved engraved tang, border engraved lock (defective, top jaw and screw missing) signed within rococo ornament and with engraved safety-catch, figured half-stock (reduced from full, bruised and repaired), mounts comprising silver side-plate (incomplete) cast and pierced with flowerheads and rocailles, vacant escutcheon en suite, iron butt-plate and trigger-guard, the latter with early form of acorn finial, and horn fore-end cap (worn, steel parts pitted, ramrod missing), London proof marks; the second with Continental two-stage sighted barrel with brass-lined maker's stamps at the breech, signed flat bevelled lock (defective), figured full stock (some damage) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, iron mounts including trigger-guard with acorn finial, and original iron-capped ramrod (iron parts pitted); the last converted from flintlock, the engraved brass butt-plate and trigger-guard each with acorn finial (barrel shortened, fore-end reduced, hammer missing, worn overall, iron parts pitted) (3)
