A Rare Cased 25-Bore Percussion Sporting Rifle
By C.P. Swinburn & Son, Makers, Birmingham, Circa 1860

With heavy rebrowned twist damascus barrel signed in full along the breech flat and rifled with four wide grooves, steel fore-sight, blued folding adjustable back-sight calibrated to 1600 yards, breech engraved with a tiger's mask in an oval against a ground of foliate scrollwork, pierced platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tang decorated with a fruiting vine, signed detented flat lock engraved with foliate scrollwork, figured half-stock (minor repairs) with chequered grip, steel mounts engraved en suite with the barrel tang and comprising butt-plate, hinged circular patch-box cover decorated with a lion in a landscape, trigger-guard with chequered spur, and rear ramrod-pipe, vacant silver escutcheon, horn fore-end cap, and original brass-mounted ramrod (steel parts with minor rust patination): in original relined and refitted brass-mounted mahogany case with some accessories including original signed steel bullet mould (trade label replaced), the exterior of the lid with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular escutcheon, complete with its original leather outer travelling cover (lid-flap detached), Birmingham proof marks
