A Cased 12-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun By J. Purdey, London, No. 4778 For 1852

With rebrowned twist damascus sighted barrels, breeches engraved with foliate scrollwork between and each with pierced platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tang and signed locks, highly figured half-stock with chequered grip, reblued steel mounts retaining traces of scroll engraving, trigger-plate with long slender finial engraved with scrolling foliage, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's monogram, and brass-mounted ramrod (steel parts worn and rust patinated): in original relined and refitted mahogany case (minor damage) with Sykes copper powder-flask and a leather shot-flask, the interior of the lid with original trade label (damaged), the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks
