A Cased Colt 1849 Model Pocket Percussion Revolver
No. 2857/. For 1854

With octagonal sighted barrel with London address, serial numbered cylinder with roll engraved stagecoach hold-up scene, frame engraved 'Colt's Patent' on gothic letters against a banner on one side, silvered trigger-guard and grip-strap (some flaking), varnished highly figured rounded grips, and matching numbers, the barrel, frame, hammer, trigger-guard, grip-strap, barrel-wedge and rammer finely decorated with London foliate scroll engraving against a hatched ground: in original highly unusual bird's eye maple case fitted and lined in blue velvet with accessories including James Dixon & Sons powder-flask with split-ring for suspension and in exceptional condition, the interior of the lid with Directions for Loading and Cleaning label (minor damage), the exterior (split) with shaped vacant brass escutcheon, London proof marks
