A Continental 13-Bore Flintlock Sporting Rifle
Mid-18th Century, Probably German Or Austrian

With long octagonal sighted barrel rifled with twenty-eight grooves, blued back-sight with flat foliate finial, plain tang, border engraved flat bevelled lock and cock (top jaw and screw replaced, steel refaced), the former retained by two wing-headed screws, figured full stock with incised line border decoration and carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, butt (split along each side) with cheekpiece and flat along the bottom, foliate engraved brass mounts comprising pierced foliate side-plate, shaped vacant escutcheon, butt-plate and spur trigger-guard, sling loops, faceted brass ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end cap, and original horn-tipped ramrod
