A Bavarian 20-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun Bearing The Initial Of Frederick II, King Of Prussia
By Johann Andreas Kuchenreuter Am Regenspurg (sic), Mid-18th Century

With two-stage barrel (pitted) inlaid with silver scrollwork around the silver spider fore-sight, at the turned girdle and on the octagonal breech, the latter signed in full in silver along the top flat and with circular gilt-lined maker's mark (Neue Støckel 7718) between, bevelled lock (cock missing, steel replaced) chiselled with a stag and hind pursued by a hound in a landscape, and with a further hound on the rounded tail, figured half-stock (fore-end incomplete) carved with foliate scrolls, butt inlaid with white horn scrollwork, cheekpiece inlaid with an oval mother-of-pearl plaque within white horn scrollwork, gilt-brass mounts (gilding rubbed) cast and chased with rocailles and comprising shaped side-plate with a huntsman and hounds pursuing a stag in a landscape, escutcheon with crowned 'FII' of Frederick II, King of Prussia, butt-plate with a stag and hind in a wooded landscape on the tang, spur trigger-guard en suite, engraved faceted ramrod-pipes (one loose), and horn-tipped ramrod, probably original (worn overall)
