A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering flattened blade (some pitting) cut with two long fullers over most of its length on each side and stamped 'Ahdria Farara' on both sides at the forte, iron guard of slender bars of circular section framing incised fretted panels pierced with circles and stylised hearts, fore-guards, small scrolled wrist-guard, fluted bun-shaped pommel, later blackened fishskin-covered wire-bound grip, buff-leather liner faced with red woollen cloth, and tassel (loose), in later black leather scabbard with iron locket and chape, the former with frog-stud (iron parts polished bright overall)
