An English Rapier
Circa 1640

With slender tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section with central fuller on each side of the forte, iron hilt comprising cup-guard pierced and chiselled with four panels of foliage, each panel within scrollwork borders and joined to a side-bar on each side (inner bar missing) by two curved foliate bars, the former chiselled centrally with foliage between scrolls and extending to join the knuckle-guard en suite, quillon-block and recurved quillons with terminals en suite, large rounded pommel also en suite, and remains of original wire binding (grip missing, pitted overall)
