Circa 1640

With tapering blade double-edged towards the point and cut with a double fuller along the back-edge for most of its length on each side, the forte incised 'H.V.I.N' within each fuller between marks on both sides, iron 'mortuary' hilt comprising guard chiselled with four bearded human masks between pierced and chiselled foliage, drawn-up to a slender knuckle-guard connected by two chiselled scrolled bars (two missing, one incomplete) to side-bars on each side (one missing) and screwed to the globular pommel chiselled en suite with the guard, and turned ivory grip (damaged, rust patinated overall)
