An English Brass-Mounted Plug Bayonet
Late 17th Century

With slightly curved single-edged blade (some pitting) back-edged towards the point and struck with a mark on each side at the forte, hilt with short brass quillons each terminating in a cast helmeted warrior's head, a small downcurved side-guard cast and chased with a grotesque lion-mask within a foliate border between, deep pommel en suite, brass basal ferrule, and figured hardwood grip (split, minor damage) of turned tapering circular section with compressed swelling at the base
