A Georgian Officer's Presentation Sabre
Dated 1804

With curved fullered blade (cleaned overall, areas of pitting) double-edged towards the point and etched over two thirds of its length on one side with indistinct London maker's name, the figure of Britannia and the full royal arms, all against a ground of differing designs of foliage, and on the other with 'Warranted' in an oval and the presentation inscription, the latter between a martial trophy and the figure of Justice, also against a ground of differing designs of foliage, the back of the blade at the forte with bladesmith's name 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen', ormolu stirrup hilt comprising langets each with scalloped edge and set with bright-cut silver decoration, knuckle-guard, rear quillon, and pommel and back-piece in one all set with lines of silver beadwork against finely stippled grounds, and later wooden grip inlaid with silver wire scrolls (some missing) and pellets, in its original black leather scabbard (leather crazed) with ormolu locket, chape and suspension mount (worn and dented) each pierced with engraved crescents and retaining traces of original gilding, the locket and suspension mount with roped reinforce each carrying a ring for suspension
