London Silver Hallmarks For 1860, Maker's Mark Of William Pimm
With bright slightly curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched over most of its length against a matt ground on one side with symmetrical scrolling foliage, recipient's initials 'J.F.C.', regimental badge between 'Queen's Westminster Rifle Volunteers' and crowned 'VR' monogram, and along the other with a vacant escutcheon and the presentation inscription, the forte on one side with crossed branches of palm on one side, and gilt-lined proof mark on the other, regulation hilt of pierced border engraved bars swept-up to join the knuckle-guard and incorporating crowned regimental bugle-horn in an oval, stepped pommel and back-piece in one, and ribbed ivory grip (minor splits and repair) bound with silver wire, in original wood-lined brown leather scabbard (some crazing and repairs) with linear engraved shaped silver mounts, and two rings for suspension
