An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword
Early 19th Century

With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and signed 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen' along the back, the forte etched with 'GR' monogram between a trophy of arms and foliage on one side, and with the full royal arms and motto on the other, regulation brass slotted hilt (originally gilt) with knuckle-guard pierced and chased with crowned monogram, a ring at the top, lion's head pommel, its mane extending down the back-piece, and ribbed ivory grip (chipped) bound with twisted copper wire, in original black leather scabbard with triple line border engraved brass mounts including locket with frog-stud, and two suspension rings
