A Mameluke-Hilted Officer's Sabre
By Osborn & Gunby, Sword Cutlers To His Majesty, Warranted, Circa 1815

With curved blade (polished bright) double-edged beyond the yelman and etched and gilt on both sides of the forte with three shaped cartouches containing cabbalistic inscriptions, one side above an oval containing the maker's details, gilt-copper hilt comprising straight quillons with pointed langets cast and chased on each side with a crescent centred on foliage, the former each with calyx-shaped terminal, and rounded ivory grip-scales retained by two brass-headed rivets, the pommel pierced for a sword-knot, in its steel scabbard (pitted overall) with two split-rings for suspension
