A 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's Sword
By John Gill, Early 19th Century

With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and bright etched against a matt ground over half its length on one side with maker's name above 'Warranted', 'GR' monogram, a figure of Britannia, post-1801 royal arms, and a garter star within foliage, and along the other with a cavalryman, martial trophy, crowned 'GR' monogram within a garland, and a figure of Victory between foliage, regulation steel stirrup hilt with pointed langets, faceted pommel and back-piece in one, and ribbed leather-covered grip bound with twisted wire, in original steel scabbard with two split-rings for suspension (hilt and scabbard lightly pitted)
