The first with curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched with crowned 'GR' monogram between foliage over one side of the forte, and royal arms and mottoes between a martial trophy and foliage over the other, the back with bladesmith's name 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen', regulation D-shaped hilt with ovoidal langets, rear quillon with faceted tapering terminal, knuckle-guard, faceted peaked pommel and back-piece in one, and swelling vertically ribbed ebony grip (chipped); the second with similar blade etched over half its length on each side, one side with maker's name in an oval, a cavalryman on horseback, crowned 'GR' monogram, a martial trophy, figure of Victory, and a flowering urn, and along the other with 'Warranted 1798' in an oval, a figure of Britannia, pre-1801 royal arms and mottoes, and a flowering urn involving a lion-mask, regulation stirrup hilt, and wire-bound leather-covered grip (both swords with some wear and rust patination) (2)
