A Singhalese Silver-Gilt Mounted Kastana
19th Century

With single-edged blade (some pitting) curved at the point, hilt comprising knuckle-guard and downturned quillons each terminating in a dragon's head, the former hollowed on the inside and with applied gold demon's mask on the outside, large dragon-head pommel with garnet eyes, and decorated throughout with chased designs of scrolling foliage, in original wood-lined silver-gilt scabbard decorated with flowering foliage en suite, the locket with applied silver-gilt border and four rings for suspension, and retaining nearly all its original gilding
