A Scottish Basket-Hilted Regulation Broadsword
Dated 1814

With tapering double-edged blade (surface rust) with narrow central fuller along most of its length on each side, the forte on one side etched '42 R.H. Regt. Spain Battles Orthez 27th Feb., Toulouse 10th April 1814', the brass hilt (incomplete) formed of slender circular section bars framing panels, fluted domed pommel with button finial, and spirally grooved leather-covered grip (wire binding missing), the guard retaining its original chamois-leather lining faced with red woollen cloth
