A Caucasian Shasqua
Late 19th Century

With curved fullered single-edged blade (rust patinated overall), characteristic hilt (one side split) encased in nielloed silver embossed and chased with scrolling foliage in low relief against a finely stippled ground within beaded borders, in original dark brown leather scabbard with silver locket, chape and suspension mounts en suite with the hilt, the inner sides nielloed with symmetrical designs of foliage including maker's signature in Arabic script on the locket, and with suspension straps, one with chased nielloed silver mounts
