An Unusual Indian Katar
17th/18th Century

With adapted European sword-blade with central fuller on each face of the forte retaining traces of stamped inscription and mark respectively, characteristic hilt entirely covered in parcel-gilt silver (some losses and wear to gilding) and comprising shaped border engraved plate extending over the base of the blade on each side, rounded recessed tapering side-bars, the borders on the outside chiselled with running arabesques, and on the inside with double waved lines, baluster grips each with petalled central swelling and compressed rotating bead between, in its wooden scabbard covered in grey velvet with silver-gilt locket and silver chape each embossed and chased with symmetrical flowering foliage, the former with medial roped band
