With barrels flared at the muzzles, signed along the rib and fitted with a spring bayonet above, foliate engraved tang with bayonet-catch, signed border engraved locks each engraved with foliage at the stepped tail and with safety-catch and roller, figured half-stock with chequered grip, brass mounts engraved with martial trophies and foliage comprising butt-plate and scroll trigger-guard with pineapple finial, brass ramrod-pipes, the rear one with pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheon, and brass-mounted ramrod, Birmingham proof marks

Colonel Sotheby, Ecton Hall, Northampton according to an old handwritten label 'found in the barrel of the gun... its seems likely that this was a family weapon and could well have belonged to Charles Sotheby, Rear Admiral of the Blue, who married in 1819 the Honorable Jane Hamilton, and died in January 1854'
