A Shibayama-Mounted Aikuchi
Unsigned, Edo Period

The shobu-zukuri blade (details of nakago unavailable) engraved on the ura with a dragon and tame, and on the omote with a prunus branch (surface rust), the gold lacquered tsuka inlaid in horn and mother-of-pearl with leaves and bars (some inlay missing), and silver fuchi-kashira decorated in silver filigree with leaves, tendrils and flowerheads with details in coloured enamels and hardstones, in its gold lacquered saya applied with numerous pierced silver kanemono in the form of chrysanthemum, peonies, lillies, lotus flowers, a butterfly and a bird, the details in polychrome enamels, the mounts, including kurikata and kojiri decorated en suite with the tsuka mounts, and complete with kodzuka decorated en suite
